Did you know that Microsoft Word for Android has reached 1 billion marks? Reaching up to this mark is no less than achieving a milestone. None of the other apps of this category has this much of downloads over the Android Play Store.
It took around 4 years to reach this milestone. The user –interface of Microsoft Word for Android is quite optimized which makes it one of the most preferred apps for writing articles or keeping notes. It was released in the year 2015 and was made to create, edit or view any document which is in Word format.
When the reports were observed deeply, it was found that these billion installs are not only from the Google Play Store. This was because Microsoft has partnered itself with some of the brands in the market. This partnership included pre-installing of Microsoft Word and several other apps on particular phones and tablets. Therefore, it may be a chance that Microsoft Word has been downloaded in those devices but remain unused forever.
In an interview, Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates mentioned that the greatest mistake done by them was to ignore the mobile OS for their products. They might have said this by seeing the success rate of their products in the mobile category.
He also marked that there is space for only one competitor for Apple’s iOS — and that it should have been “a natural thing for Microsoft to win”. You must know that after so a long period too, Microsoft’s mobile efforts haven’t reached a significant level of the competitors. But still, the mobile version provides a lot of features which are same as of the desktop version.
The report also showed that the other products of Microsoft such as Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote, and OneDrive, have more than around 500 million+ installs over the mobile OS. While on the other hand, the email client Outlook from Microsoft has more than 100 million+ active installations over the Play Store.
